New Orleans on There.com
I’ve been busy the last few days in setting up a new chat for my forum for people with depression on There.com, which is a virtual 3D environment. In my travels I ran across a representation of Jackson Square that someone had created, in an area they’ve called “There Orleans.” I hope this person goes on to build more of the city, because he or she has done a nice job so far.

Hrmmm, I find the environments too distracting. Probably just me.

That’s a very good point. The visuals could take away from the conversation. I think it depends on what you’re looking for when you’re interacting with other people online.
I think it also depends on your brain to a great extent as to what makes you more comfortable. I’m very visual, and need to have the environment created for me to have that sense of “place.”
Some people are more comfortable with the pure text environment or are better at creating that sense of place in their own heads.
That’s my take on it, anyway. I think it will be interesting to see how many people spend more time in there.com as opposed to the regular chat room.
