Knitting

Knitting for moving targets

You can’t do it. That’s what I’ve decided. I started knitting a cardigan for Lawrence a few months ago in denim yarn. He’s almost 4, but he’s tall, so I aimed for size 6-8. I finished the back and started one side and realized it’s going to be too short before I even finish it. [...]

Still knitting

I am actually still knitting, although it doesn’t look like it, does it? I knit the Simply Marilyn sweater by Debbie Bliss from Interweave Knits this past spring. I knit it in KnitPicks Sierra yarn in Natural. I liked the yarn while I was knitting, but then it started pilling. And then I remembered how [...]

Knitted and Felted Noro Kureyon Trays

I knitted these trays out of Noro Kureyon using a pattern from the book Felted Knits as presents. For the smaller one, I just cut the number of stitches in half (30 as opposed to 60, I believe). I used color #115 on the bigger one and #148 on the smaller one. The colors are [...]

Irish Hiking Scarf

I made this version of the Irish Hiking Scarf for a friend’s mother. I used Baby Alpaca Grande, which I love, in #567 using #11 needles since it’s bulky weight. I made only two cables instead of three, otherwise it would have been a shawl instead of a scarf! This color, by the way, is [...]

Chloe’s Legwarmers

I finished the legwarmers for my niece Chloe. I used Paton’s Kroy in Kool Stripes and did a K2,P2 rib for a few inches on size 6 needles, ending up with 4 rows of stockinette stitch.

Kye’s Poncho

I finally finished knitting the poncho for my niece Kye. I used Rowan Cotton Braid shade 351 and essentially followed Stefanie Japel’s Paris Loop pattern in MagKnits. I made the neck a little smaller.

Noro Kureyon Knitted Fingerless Mitts

I call them knitted gauntlets, the Fall/Winter 2005 issue of KnitScene, where I got the pattern, called them fingerless mitts. Same thing, I think. I made these (my first cable project) with Noro Kureyon color #131. I was pretty happy with the way they turned out. The thumb was my first project with double pointed [...]

Knitted Cell Phone Case

I knitted this cell phone case a couple of months ago. Very simple – just knit a rectangle, stitch up the sides and add an I-cord loop for the button. I used Jo-Ann Sensations Breeze yarn, which is so much fun to use, in Coral. I actually used the same yarn to make ponchos for [...]

Christmas

We had a really nice Christmas. Very mellow. I got a Lantern Moon knitting needle organizer from Mom and Dad, which thrilled me to pieces. Lawrence had his first real Christmas with Santa and stockings and all that stuff. I made him this stocking, but it didn’t turn out exactly as I planned, I think. [...]

Berroco Tutu Scarf

Here’s my latest scarf – Berroco Tutu in Coolsville #5795 and Lion Brand Fun Fur in #741 Rainbow. I knit them together in garter stitch on size 17 needles. I made it long (5′) and skinny (3″) with 5″ long fringe. It took a little over a skein of each of the Tutu and the [...]
